World Chess Boxing Organization (WCBO)

On Friday 14 November 2003, Iepe the Joker was crowned the first world champion of chess and boxing. This took place after a blistering title fight in a heaving Melkweg. In the eleventh and final round of a blood-curdling contest, the chess flag of local favourite Luis the Lawyer fell.

The World Championship in Paradiso took place under the auspices of the World Chess boxing Organization (WCBO) and was supported by the Dutch Boxing Federation (NBB), supervised by three-time Olympic medal winner Arnold Vanderlyde and the Royal Dutch Chess Federation (KNSB). BKB sponsored this cultural sports event by taking on the organisation and publicity of the project.
