2003, 2004, 2005 Every year, the Royal Dutch Shell Prize foundation awards a sum of €100,000 to a scientific breakthrough or technical innovation in the area of sustainable development and energy.
In 2003, Niek Lopes Cardozo received the award for his pioneering work in nuclear fusion. In 2004, the honour went to Professor Wim van Swaaij for his work in conversion technologies of biomass. The 2005 winner was Joop van Lenteren, who has worked for around 30 years on the development of sustainable production methods in agriculture.
BKB gave media advice surrounding the award ceremony and assisted in the organisation of this. BKB also produced a film in which five winners were asked for their vision of the future of energy supply.
